Reginald S. Lourie Center's Therapeutic Nursey Program Earns National Accreditation

Rockville, MD – The Therapeutic Nursery Program (TNP) at the Reginald S. Lourie Center for Infants and Young Children (Lourie Center) recently earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals.

The TNP is a specialized preschool that addresses the needs of young children three to five years of age with emotional and behavioral problems that may interfere with success in a regular preschool or day care setting.

“We are proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest of professional standards, especially for those children at-risk for school failure and their families,” said Marcel Wright, executive director of the Lourie Center. “The accreditation lets our clients and other families in the community know that the Lourie Center offers the best possible care, early learning experience, and therapeutic support for social-emotional development.”

The TNP earned accreditation after completing an extensive process which measured the program and its services against 10 NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related accreditation
criteria. NAEYC-accredited programs are also subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years.

The TNP also received special commendation for its outstanding work in several areas, including promoting positive relationships among children and adults, culturally and linguistically appropriate teaching, and close and effective collaboration with families.
